Chapter 6: Reduced to a Whisper

In a tribe of resilient females whose compromises evade defeat, Etta’s daughter-in-law Minna Sessinghaus Eliot (1868-1944) proves a tragic exception. A summa cum laude graduate of  Washington University, she abandons an academic career to marry Etta’s son Will. By 1906, when Will is installed in the Portland pulpit, Minna is losing the battle to squeeze herself into a life that’s too small.
